experiment: i'll try to do this in english. being a scholar of german literature, that's no easy decision, but blogging on media in german is somehow ridiculous. and the english language feels much better in writing microcontent. german is, as many have observed before, a deep and heavy language. and new media, like the old greek, are superficial -- out of profundity:
We no longer believe that truth remains truth when the veils are withdrawn; we have lived enough not to believe this. ... One should have more respect for the bashfulness with which THE MEDIA has hidden behind riddles and iridescent uncertainties. Oh, those Greeks ! They knew how to live. What is required for that is to stop courageously at the surface, the fold, the skin, to adore appearance, to believe in forms, tones, words, in the whole Olympus of appearance. Those Greeks were superficial -- out of profundity.
